Express vs Full Control: which should I choose?

When you create a new version, the ‘Create Destination Version’ page asks you to choose where your document will be saved. There are two options, Express and Full Control. Here’s how they differ and when to use each.

What’s the difference between Express and Full Control?

Express creates a brand new document every time, with your version saved inside it. It’s quick to set up, and the document is given a unique URL made up of random characters. Full Control lets you choose which document your new version is saved in, so you can add it to an existing document or create a new one from there. You can also choose the URL yourself.

When should I use Express?

Express is ideal when you want to start something new quickly and the URL doesn’t matter. Each time you use it, a new document is created to hold your version, so it works well for one-off pieces, quick drafts, or testing an idea.

How do I create a version using Express?

Select a ‘Folder’.
Enter a ‘Document Name’.
Select a ‘Style’.
Select ‘Create Version’.

When should I use Full Control?

Full Control is the right choice when you want to add a new version to a document you already have, keeping all its versions together in one place. It’s also useful when you want a meaningful URL, or want to create a new document and set it up exactly how you’d like.
