Using placeholders

Rather than sending a generic email, consider using placeholders to pull through details like recipient name, location or job role. It's a great way to make each message feel more relevant and personal to the person receiving it!

  • save time and reduce the risk of manual errors

  • create a tailored and professional look

  • boost engagement and build trust

  • improve the user experience

Version Placeholders

If you’re using TigerMailer to distribute a document that was created from a version template with placeholders, the same placeholders can be used in a mailing to automatically populate content.

  • In the 'Build Your Email' area, add a block of your choice.
  • Click into the block and select the placeholder icon.

  • The placeholder(s) will then be added into the design of the mailing.

  • When the mailing is sent, each placeholder will automatically pull through the corresponding text from the document being distributed.

Global Placeholders

Use Global Placeholders to personalise and control the content in a mailing. These placeholders automatically insert system-held information, such as recipient first name and surname,or an unsubscribe link, directly into your email.

  • Unsubscribe - insert a link that allows the recipient to opt out of future mailings.

  • Sender Address - display the email address of the recipient the mailing has been sent to.

  • First Name - automatically populate with the recipient’s first name (if available in the EVL*).

  • Surname - automatically populate with the recipient’s surname (if available in the EVL*).

  • Temp Link Expiry Date - show the expiry date of a temporary link when distributing an unpublished document.

  • Temp Link Expiry Time - show the expiry time of a temporary link when distributing an unpublished document.

Tip! Ensure your EVL includes the recipients first name and surname so placeholders populate correctly.

Example use cases

Scenario 1

If you’re sending a newsletter to a large audience, use an Expected Visitor List with the First Name and Surname completed. Then insert the Global Placeholders for ‘First Name’ and ‘Surname’ to your mailing - the details will be automatically pulled though to the mailing, so every recipient receives a personalised version.

Scenario 2

If you regularly create documents using a template that includes placeholders (such as Job Role and Salary), set up a mailing template that uses Version Placeholders. Each time you send a new mailing, simply choose the template and it will automatically pull through the correct employee details.
